Brick chalk line sets contain a chalk line and chalk (and usually other items like a line level or marker pen). These kits are used to leave long, straight lines on surfaces to ensure that bricks are laid and aligned accurately.
First, the chalk line tool is filled with chalk, which covers the string that is contained inside the device in the substance. Then, the end of the line is hooked or pinned on to something on the end of where you want the line to be (most chalk lines have a hook attached at the end).
The line is then stretched out and held down on the place where you want the line to start. A line level should be used to make sure that the line is straight. Once the line is level and taut, it is then pulled upwards/outwards in the opposite direction of where you want the line to place. The line is then released, causing it to hit back down onto the surface; leaving a chalk line mark behind.
