Centre Punches

What is a Nail Centre Punch?

Centre punches are small metal rods which have a conical tip to allow you to make an indentation in material. The tip is placed on the desired area of the material and the head of the punch is then tapped with a hammer in order to leave a dimple.

This hand-tool is mainly used to mark the centre of a point prior to drilling to enable you to make a hole in the same place without the drill slipping. Drills tend to 'wander' if they do not start in a recess, however this device allows you to leave a large enough dip to successfully 'guide' the drill tip.
