SDS Drills and Breakers

We stock a great range of SDS hammer drills and breakers from one of the best trade brands, Bosch.

Our range includes SDS-Plus hammer drills, SDS-Max hammer drills and SDS-Max breakers in both 110V and 240V.

What is an SDS Drill?

SDS drills are similar to impact drills, except they are much more powerful. They perform a hammering action that is delivered by a pneumatic hammer which physically strikes the back of the drill bit to hammer it into the material.

Most SDS drills also have a rotation stop which allows them to be used for chiseling and an impact stop which turns them into a conventional drill.

What Does SDS Mean?

SDS originally comes from the German phrase “steck, dreh, sitzt”, which translates to "insert, twist, fits". Nowadays, it is generally referred to as 'slotted drive system' or, as Bosch like to call it, 'special direct system'.

SDS describes the drill bit clamping mechanism in these drills. The bit has a grooved shank which allows it to move freely with the hammer action, whilst being held securely in the tool holder by two ball bearings.

SDS bits can be changed by simply pressing the chuck backwards and opening the clamping mechanism - no need for tools!

Cordless SDS Drills

We also supply a great range of cordless SDS drills which might be better suited to your needs.
