Cordless Tools

Kelvin Power Tools have an extensive range of cordless tools from Bosch, Panasonic, Metabo, DeWalt, Makita and Festool. The range includes many of today's most popular tools that are necessary for a variety of different tasks. Cordless tools are ideal for when access to power is limited or mobility is required.

There are many elements to consider when choosing your cordless tool:

Voltage

Most cordless power tools are available in a variety of voltages, from 10.8v up to 36.0v. These different voltages change not only the power of the machine but also the size and weight, which may be important if you do a lot of work in tight spaces or overhead.

  • 10.8v tools are handy machines for light tasks or infrequent usage
  • 14.4v tools are best for performing slightly more demanding tasks
  • 18v tools are the most popular tools of today, combining power and performance with usability and versatility
  • 36v tools are ideal for frequent performance of very heavy-duty tasks

Battery Chemistry

There are 3 main types of battery chemistry available: nickel cadmium (NiCd), nickel metal hydride (NiMH), and lithium-ion (Li-ion). NiCd and NiMH tools are slowly disappearing as Li-ion cordless tools become cheaper and manufacturers extend their ranges. Li-ion presents several advantages including no memory effect, lighter weight (more power than a NiCd/NiMH battery of the same weight), and low self-discharge rate of 5-10% per month.

Compatible Products

Most manufacturers develop specific ranges of cordless power tools, designed to be completely compatible with one another. If you are buying a single drill or saw this may not be a problem now, but consider future applications and how likely you are to require more cordless tools later.
