The Festool HKC 55 18v circular saw is a very compact and lightweight model that has been designed to provide you with a portable solution for rip and cross cutting.
The saw comes packaged with the FSK420 Festool saw guide rail. This allows you to quickly and easily make repeat mitre cuts wherever they are needed, even up on scaffolding or a roof.
When combined, the HCK55 Festool cordless saw and FSK 420 guide rail are capable of making quick and precise rip and cross cuts in materials up to 55mm thick. Overall, this package is ideal for tasks such as cutting roof battens to length, sawing lining boards/shuttering to size, and cutting chipboard to size.
What are the main features of this Festool cordless circular saw?
Highly mobile thanks to light weight and compact cordless design, with long-running 18v 5.2Ah Li-ion batteries
Brushless EC-TEC motor – powerful, efficient, and long-lasting (see below for details)
Versatile – you can adjust both the mitre and bevel of the cut, and make rip, plunge and cross cuts in any location.
Safe to use – the hinged blade cover moves out of the way as you start the cut, and has an integrated riving knife to prevent kickback
FastFix blade interface – quick and easy blade changes using just one hand
Why should I used the Festool FSK 420 guide rail?
The key thing about the FKS420 is the stop system, which allows you to make mitre cuts using just a saw and rail rather than a mitre saw. This means that you can make these cuts in situ, in places that are inaccessible to a mitre saw, such as up on scaffolding or a roof.
Simply slide the stop up the rail to create an angle up to 60 degrees. Then, when the board is placed against this stop and the fixed stop on the other side, the precise mitre angle will be set.
Once you have finished cutting, the saw retracts to the starting position at the flick of a switch. This allows you to quickly and easily make many repeat cuts and exactly the same angle!
What are the advantages of the brushless VE-TEC motor?
Firstly, it requires less maintenance than a brushed motor. The brushes in a brushed motor often wear out, causing you to spend valuable time and money on repairs. Remove the brushes and you remove the problem!
Secondly, this new motor adapts to working conditions. Special electronics ensure that the motor only generates the amount of power that you need for the application, which saves energy and battery life.
Lastly, the EC-TEC motor constantly monitors the most important parameters such as temperature and speed. Should these parameters reach potentially dangerous levels, the saw automatically limits the power to protect the sensitive electronics.
