What is Starlock? Starlock, StarlockPlus & StarlockMax Explained
Are you wanting to buy a multi-tool, but you’re unsure what the difference between Starlock, StarlockPlus and StarlockMax is? Don’t worry, we’ll explain everything you need to know.
A multi-tool’s interface is its accessory-fitting system. Multi-tools either have an older OIS interface or a newer Starlock interface.
The Oscillating Interface System (OIS) was created by Bosch in 2010. It was the first standardised accessory-fitting system for oscillating tools, allowing you to use different brand’s accessories with different brand’s oscillating tools.
Starlock was created by Bosch and Fein in 2016. It’s an improved standardised accessory-fitting system for multi-tools. Starlock accessories have a future-proof ‘cake-tin’ pattern for a 3D connection between the motor and accessory. This ensures 100% power transfer for maximum performance, stability and precision.
There are three Starlock categories: Starlock, StarlockPlus and StarlockMax.
Each Starlock multi-tool category indicates different power outputs. Starlock multi-tools are the standard range. StarlockPlus multi-tools are more powerful. StarlockMax multi-tools are the most powerful.
Each Starlock accessory category is designed to match the power output of its compatible multi-tools. Starlock accessories fit all multi-tools, no matter if they have a Starlock, StarlockPlus, StarlockMax or OIS interface. (DeWalt multi-tools require an adapter.) StarlockPlus accessories fit all multi-tools with a StarlockPlus or StarlockMax interface. StarlockMax accessories fit all multi-tools with a StarlockMax interface.
Note: Accessories with an OIS interface aren’t compatible with Starlock multi-tools.
