Power Jigsaws

Kelvin Power Tools stock a wide range of professional electric jigsaws from top manufacturers like Bosch, Metabo, DeWalt, Makita, Festool and Skil. Mains-powered jigsaws such as these are best suited to tough cutting jobs or regular periods of long usage.

Professional jig saws are designed for cutting curves such as stenciled designs and custom shapes in a variety of materials including wood, metal, laminates, tiles and plastics. They can be used more artistically than most other saws that typically only cut straight lines, but it is worth noting that straight cuts are difficult with these tools, even when using a guide. Jigsaws make their curve cuts with a small, thin, reciprocating blade, and it is important to match the blade type to the material being cut. Bosch and Festool make a wide range of blades for specific materials and finishes.

Jig saws vary quite substantially. Grip-wise, there are two main types: barrel grip and top handle. Some feature pendulum action, which moves the blade side to side as well as up and down. This allows the jigsaw to cut faster, reduces jamming, and extends the blade’s life. LEDs and laser guides are common features which increase cutting accuracy, often in conjunction with dust extraction. Other important features to look for are vibration levels, robustness, grip circumference and blade changing/plate adjustment system.
